Katamari Damarcy, one of the greatest, but under-appreciated video game franchises of all time, is over. The official japanese website has closed down, and Keita Takahashi (the creator/designer of the game) says he wants to design playgrounds.

Apple has updated FrontRow with some very cool networking features. Normally FrontRow wont run on a mac without Apple’s built in IR reciever, but thanks to Andrew Escobar and his excellent FrontRow Enabler anyone with Mac OS X 10.4.5 can use FrontRow. Add a cheap Keyspan IR reciever and your favorite programable remote or Gyro mouse and your good to go.

Macrovision has a long history of being evil toward consumers in the name of copy-protection. Their half-assed attempts at DRM have always had flaws and rather than come up with something better they have decided to go after the little guys.
VersionTracker.com is reporting that Macrovision is demanding they stop linking to MacTheRipper.
“We have been contacted by Macrovision, who claims this violates their property and are threatening to sue us if we don’t remove the links to it. We are checking with our legal advisors to find out what our options are. -VersionTracker Editors”
The best way to get your copy of MacTheRipper at the moment is via BitTorrent.

After years and years of refusing, Los Angeles based KROQ has finally started streaming their content online. But as always, the still managed to screw it up. Not only is the stream based in Windows Media and super low quality (54 kbps), but the site is so badly designed it does not work on anything except windows. After trying the site in every browser I could (Safari, Shiira, Opera, Firefox, ect. ect.) I gave up and found the stream’s url in the source.
UPDATE – 2/22/05
Looks like they have changed URL’s:
Drop that URL into Windows Media Player for mac and you too can hear The Kevin & Bean Show.

This guy was selling a nice video camera used on Amazon and was being pestered by Nigerian 419 scammers. When they went to the extreme of faking Amazon purchase conformations he decided to get revenge. Instead of getting a Cannon GL2 in his scamming little hands, this Nigerian recieved a box of feces, and had to pay the FedEx bill to boot.
“A day or so after listing the GL2 I started receiving emails from interested parties. I was immediately suspicious when I received multiple inquiries wanting to pay for the GL2 via Bidpay and requesting that I ship the Canon GL2 to Nigeria. Each time I responded that the Canon GL2 had to be purchased via the amazon.com purchasing system and that I could ship the GL2 to Nigeria. I also would inform the prospective buyer that I would ship the GL2 as soon as I received confirmation from amazon.com confirming the sale of the GL2. Soon after responding I would receive another email  that looked as if it originated from amazon.com, I believe this is called phishing, stating that my camera had been sold and to ship it to some person in Nigeria. Whenever I receive a sale confirmation email from amazon.com I log into my account at amazon.com to verify the legitimacy of the email and each time the camera was still listed as not sold and there was not any money transfered into my amazon.com account. At this point I was certain that the confirmation emails from amazon.com were fraudulent and I was being scammed.”
The above photo is from the always excellent 419Eater.

The Pirate Bay is auctioning off a single shirt and a night of drinking for a ridiculous amount of money. From the auction:
“The Pirate Bay is the worlds largest bittorrent tracker. It also has one of the world’s most obnoxious, retarded yet pleasant crews behind it. You probably know who we are since you found this auction.
Since we have a lot of bandwidth usage and low salaries for working on our site, we’ve decided to sell a one of a kind t-shirt.
Yes, you heard us. We’re selling out a really nice t-shirt. The t-shirt (as pictured below) is a an original copy of the original itself.
Anyhow, if you win this auction you will receive the “honor” of paying your own fare to Stockholm, Sweden, and pay for all your own expenses (i.e. hotel, food, 1337, whatever you’re into). You will also get to treat the seller to a nice dinner in town with pleasant conversations about happy times and joy-joy feelings. And yeah, we need something to wash down the food with as well.
So, who will you be able to hang with? All of the crew basically. Anakata, Tiamo, and the non-mentionable behind the scenes-people. We’re about 4-5 people that you are interested in meeting and showing of your precious new t-shirt to.
The pick-up date and size will be negotiated with the buyer.”
As of this writing the auction is almost at $4,000.

Tickr for Flickr is a really nice and simple Flickr desktop ticker. Type in a tag, pick an image size and screen location, and watch the pictures scroll. Under the hood are tons of little features that make this one elegant application.
“But you probably want to know a little more about the images you’re seeing, so you can point to them with your mouse and see the title the photographer gave the image, the tags which people have given the image, and the original image’s size in pixels. If you double-click the image, its flickr page will open in your web browser.
tickr’s contextual menu deserves a little discussion. By right- or Control-clicking on an image, you can bring up a contextual menu from which you can pause and resume the tickrshow, open the image’s flickr page (same as a double-click), open a larger version of the image, or open the photographer’s photostream page. All of these options will open a new window in your favorite web browser. You can also copy a link to the image’s flickr page (great for showing your friends an image in Newspeak!) or copy the image itself to the clipboard. If you save the image to your Pictures folder, they’ll be saved in a subfolder called tickr Downloads.”

Long promised but never delivered, Tivo is showing early test versions of TivoToGo for Mac OS X at CES. TivoToGo lets you download recordings from Tivo Series 2 and presumably the newly annouced series 3 to your Mac and from there move it to other media devices. Burn a DVD, put it on your PSP, or watch it on your iPod Video. The question is: “How long till this shows up on BitTorrent?”
