Bless Your iPod

“Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum, invites the blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.”
Bare with us here, there is a point!
“They also believe you can produce the same effect by spinning the written form of the mantra around in a prayer wheel (called “Mani wheels” by the Tibetans). The effect is said to be multiplied when more copies of the mantra are included, and spinning the Mani wheels faster increases the benefit as well.”
Remember “Giiiive me the kniiife” from Eddie Murphy’s The Golden Child?
“His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, has said that having the mantra on your computer works the same as a traditional Mani wheel. As the digital image spins around on your hard drive, it sends the peaceful prayer of compassion to all directions and purifies the area.”
So just by downloading the above image to your iPod (or hard drive) you can bless it, and all that surrounds it.
All the Buddhist stuff in quotes came from here. Yes, this was sort-of mentioned on slashdot ages ago, but putting it on your iPod is my “spin” on things.

The Zoomquilt

MoshDaddy pointed out this really cool and trippy interactive flash movie. It’s the work of a couple different artists, all intertwined on a loop that you can endlessly zoom in and out on. Since that description does it absolutely no justice just go check it out. It would make a killer Mac OS X screensaver.

Your Computer Wants Some E

If Crucial get’s their way, your PC will soon be sucking on a pacifier and waving glowsticks like a madman. They have added blinking LED’s to some of their ram chips.
“Ballistix Tracer memory features two rows of eight “chasing” red and green LEDs atop the module, indicating memory activity by circulating at varying speeds. A custom-designed circuit relays bus activity to the LEDs, allowing them to accurately reflect usage of each memory module. In addition, eight blue ground effects LEDs emit a constant glow near the pins. “
The chips are on black PCB’s and have black heat spreaders.

Portable Peltier Beer Cooler

Solving the age old problem of keeping beer cold on a hot day, Øyvind Arnesen built himself a portable peltier beer cooler. Battery, or power-over-ethernet powered, this cup keeps a glass of Guinness at about 7°C.

iPod Universal Remote
The always excellent Engadget has a great write-up on how to turn your iPod into a universal remote using the following:
“* iPod (doesn’t matter which one, we used our mini)
* PC or Mac with sound recording software (we used a PC with SoundForge)
* A Pocket PC (any Pocket PC 2002 / 2003 should work, we used a Toshiba and an iPaq)
* Griffin’s Total Remote Software and IR device”
Sure, you could just buy a Pronto Neo and have better controls and a better interface, but then you wouldn’t look like a total moron pointing your MP3 player at your TV.
