Wikimapia

Wikimapia (WARNING: CRASHES SAFARI) is a really cool Google Maps mash-up. In true wiki fashion, anyone who wants can select/create/edit points of interest anywhere on the planet. It sounds kind of simple, but it’s hours of entertainment.

There Goes The Neighborhood

This just proves that Rodney Dangerfield is as funny in death as he was in life.
I was at the Westwood Memorial Cemetery yesterday for a funeral and knew it had a lot of famous people. Truman Capote, Eva Gabor, Janis Joplin (sort of), Jack Lemon, Dean Martin, Walter Matthau, Roy Orbison, Frank Zappa, and of course Marilyn Monroe. Hugh Hefner owns the empty plot (vault space really) next to Marilyn’s. When the funeral was over I was walking to my car and found Rodney’s grave. Really turned my crummy day around. I know the shadows look funny and some might say it looks photoshopped, but I swear it’s unedited (besides shrinking it down), my cameraphone just sucks.

Guinness Surger

Gizmodo pointed out this really cool new gadget from Guinness. Only available in the UK for now, the Guinness Surger is a special plate that sends ultrasonic waves into your pint of Guinness to produce the perfect head.
Watch a video of it in action.
So who wants to ship a couple of these to me in the States?

Watch a Guinness Record Get Broken Live

Local SoCal radio station KROQ is having their phone screener, Dave “The King of Mexico”, attempt to break the Guinness record for most continuous hours watching TV. The cool part? You can watch him watch TV. It’s oddly entertaining, I swear.

Mac OS X POWERED Autonomous Car

Xlr8YourMac pointed out this cool Fully Autonomous VW Toureg that is powered by the 3 Mac Mini’s pictured above.
“how can a car drive itself?
computers inside the car control electronic pistons and belts to control the steering wheel, brake and gas pedals, and gear shifter.
how does it know where to go?
the car follows a series of GPS waypoints that define the course boundary and periodic check points.
how can it “see” the road or avoid obstacles?
various video cameras, radars, sonars, and lasers are used to estimate what the terrain is like and what obstacles may be in between.”

Ninjam
![]()
Ninjam is the newest creation from Justin Frankel.
“NINJAM is a program to allow people to make real music together via the Internet. Every participant can hear every other participant. Each user can also tweak their personal mix to his or her liking. NINJAM is cross-platform, with clients available for Mac OS X and Windows.
NINJAM uses compressed audio which allows it to work with any instrument or combination of instruments. You can sing, play a real piano, play a real saxophone, play a real guitar with whatever effects and guitar amplifier you want, anything. If your computer can record it, then you can jam with it (as opposed to MIDI-only systems that automatically preclude any kind of natural audio collaboration1).
Since the inherent latency of the Internet prevents true realtime synchronization of the jam2, and playing with latency is weird (and often uncomfortable), NINJAM provides a solution by making latency (and the weirdness) much longer. “
